Lingopoint

Q: Which web browsers should I use on the Lingotek site?

A: We recommend using Firefox 3.0+, but we also test the site for compatibility with Internet Explorer 7.0+. Alternative web browsers may or may not work correctly.

Q: Where do I go for help?

A: The best way is to e-mail us at support@lingotek.com. Any specific information such as browser type, file/project name and any screenshots of the issue will help us to assist you quickly.

Q: What are Community Documents?

A: Community Documents are documents that will be listed directly underneath your dashboard. Any user of LingoPoint is able to view, translate and review these documents.

Q: I want to review the entire document in the source and/or target language, is that possible?

A: Yes, you can view the entire document as a PDF file. The Project Manager must enable this feature, please ask him/her to do so. Once it has been enabled, the document will have a small PDF icon to the right of the source and target languages on your Dashboard. To download the PDF version of the document, click on the PDF icon from your dashboard and you will be able to download the PDF to your computer.

Q: What are the different types of Hits on the Resources Tab?

A: There are two types of TM populating the Hits tab: Automatically Translated Text and Filter Results.

Q: What is "Automatically Translated Text"?

A: We use the Google Translate Engine Wikipedia:Machine Translation to give automated translations for most common language pairs. These translations are created by a computer, not by human translators, and they may have errors or awkward phrasing.

Q: Where are the Filter Results coming from?

A: These search results come from Translation Memory Vaults. They can be source and target segments that were translated by other translators in the past, with the most similar sentences at the top. These can also include TM hits that are being used to keep certain words, phrases or product names standard throughout the project. It is also important to note that as you are translating/reviewing and making changes to the current project, you are a part of updating the TM Vault for the project. Translators/reviewers in that language pair will see hits from your work in the future.

Q: Can I add Dictionary Entries?

A: Yes, you are able to add words to the dictionary.

Q: Can I edit Dictionary Entries?

A: Yes, you are able to edit the dictionary.

Q: What do the different "Next" options do?

A: There are three different types of segments that this menu will allow you to find:

  1. Next Segment: This brings you to the segment directly following the segment that is currently highlighted.
  2. Next Untranslated: This brings you to the next segment that does not contain a translation in the target pane.
  3. Next Exact Match: This brings you to the next segment that had an exact match pasted in. This allows you to review segments that were automatically taken from TM Vaults.

Q: Do you have a spell checker?

A: No. Because modern browsers have built-in and well-supported spell checkers, we have discontinued our spell checker. For more information on utilizing a spell checker in Lingopoint, click here[[1]].

Q: What is Target Search?

A: The Target Search icon File:Target.png searches the text that you have entered in the translation field for matches in your TM Vaults. For example, if you were translating a sentence from French into English, target search would use the English sentence that you had translated to look for similar English>French translations in your TM Vaults.

Q: What are bookmarks?

A: Bookmarks save a segment for later review. When you are on a segment that you would like to bookmark, click the bookmark icon. File:Bookmark.png To review segments that were previously bookmarked, click the Go to Bookmark icon. File:GoToBookmark.png
