Classic Workbench
Overview
The Workbench is the primary resource for translating and reviewing content. There are two versions of the Lingotek Workbench: Classic and New.
  • Classic Workbench: displays the source and target segments in a top-bottom format (typically used by professional translators)
  • New Workbench: displays the source and target segments in a left-right format (often used by non-professional translators)

Launching the Workbench
Launch the Workbench by clicking a task on the Dashboard. 

  • Click the link in the Task column to open the document in the Workbench
  • Click the Document link to download the file; if the document name is not a link, then the file cannot be downloaded



Source and Target Panes
The Source pane on top displays the source text. The Target pane on bottom displays the target text.
The segment highlighted in blue is the current one you are working on.



Navigation
There are three main buttons for navigating between translation segments:

  • Blue Next button: takes you to the next segment in the file to be translated or reviewed (this skips over segments already translated or reviewed)
  • Orange down arrow: move down one segment
  • Orange up arrow: move up one segment

Saving Changes
When you use the buttons to navigate through the segments, your changes are saved automatically. You can also click the Save button in either pane to save your changes at any time.

Translating
To translate:

  • Click the Target pane to activate it
  • Enter a translation
  • Click the Next button or orange down arrow

Using Translation Memory (TM) Entries
Hits from the Translation Memory (TM) appear on the right pane in the Hits tab.

  • Click the blue number next to the TM hit to bring a TM hit into the target pane

Reviewing
To review:

  • Click the Target pane to activate it
  • Edit the translation as needed
  • Click the orange down arrow to move to the next segment
    • This button marks each segment as "Reviewed" when you move to the next segment
  • If you go back up in the document, clicking the blue Next button will take you to the next un-reviewed segment
    • This button also marks each segment as "Reviewed" when you move to the next segment

Using Hotkeys
You can use keyboard shortcuts for navigation and other tasks.

  • Previous segment (orange up arrow): Alt+ up
  • Next segment (orange down arrow): Alt+q
  • Next un-translated or un-reviewed segment (blue Next button): Alt + down

To configure the Hotkeys, click the Gear icon in the Target pane.



Separating the Source and Target Panes
You can split the Source and Target panes into separate windows, which allows you to customize their size and location. To separate the panes:

  • Click the View button in the top-right corner
  • Choose “Window Popped Out”

To reunite the panes:

  • Click the View button in the top-right corner
  • Uncheck “Window Popped Out”

Viewing All Source and Target Segments
The Document Viewer can be used to view all the source and target segments side-by-side.  Clicking a segment in the Document Viewer automatically loads that segment in the Workbench.

To activate the Document Viewer:

  • Click the View button in the top-right corner
  • Choose “Document Viewer”

There are two ways to close the Document Viewer:

  • Close the browser window the Document Viewer is open
  • Click the View button in the top-right corner and uncheck “Document Viewer”

Find & Replace Within a Document
You can find and replace a term within a document using the Find tab.

  • Click the Find tab
  • Enter the term in the "Find" box
  • Enter the replacement term in the "Replace With" box
  • Select "Source" or "Target" in the Options box to search either the source or target
  • Click the "Find" button to find the next term
  • Click the "Replace" button to replace the term, or click "Replace All" to replace all occurrences of the term.
